Investments
The Montréal metropolitan area is a prime destination for investment, because of:
- Dynamic macroeconomic environment
- Quality of its infrastructures
- Rigorous administration of its legal system
- Large pool of qualified labour
- Numerous business opportunities offered by its market within the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Every year, the private sector invests several billion dollars in the Montréal area. In 2011 foreign investment accounted for 24% of all non-residential private investment in real estate in Greater Montréal.
Many of the foreign companies that invest in Greater Montréal are foreign leaders in high technology, thus testifying to the quality of the investment climate in the metropolitan area.
Investment Projects under way in Greater Montréal
The City of Montréal, in partnership with various players, plans to implement over 130 projects and initiatives totalling investments of several tens of billions of dollars as part of its bold Imaginer–Réaliser Montréal 2025 development plan. Many of these major projects, including the Montréal Harbourfront, University hospital centres, the Quartier des spectacles (Show district) and the Montreal-Trudeau International Airport will have profound effects on the drawing power of Greater Montréal, its quality of life and its economic competitiveness.
