The Québec government wants to increase international mobility for skilled workers

The minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities, Mrs. Kathleen Weil, is currently on a mission in France and in Catalonia to increase the professional mobility of skilled foreign workers between those two territories and Québec. Up to now, Mrs. Weil makes a positive review of her meetings with the key players for international mobility.

“With professional mobility becoming such an important economic issue, the province of Québec increases its presence on the global stage to reinforce its cooperation agreements and to be at the forefront in this race for talents. Québec companies need this skilled workforce to sustain growth and maintain their competitiveness on their respective markets. According to Emploi-Québec’s forecasts, more than 730,000 jobs will need to be filled by 2015 in the province,” declared Mrs. Weil.

Québec and France already have two agreements which, on one hand, facilitate the access to regulated professions and jobs and, on the other, create a space for professional mobility between the two regions. "French who choose to immigrate in Québec are mainly skilled workers. Each year, thousands of French people contribute to the growth of our companies in different industries," has highlighted Mrs. Weil. In 2010, close to 4,000 French citizens were welcomed as permanent residents in Québec
